Retreat. Relax. Renew.
The story of The Morris Estate began with Ernest Melvin Morris, a local entrepreneur known for his visionary business skills and generous charitable contributions. He purchased parcels of land in Southwest Michigan along the St. Joseph River with a passion for reforestation. In the 1930s, Morris Farms was born. E.M. Morris and his family continued to expand the farm and had many unique and historic structures built and placed on the 1,000 acre property. Over the years, the Morris Family and local residents enjoyed countless gatherings at Morris Farms.
In 2010 the current owners purchased The Chapel, The River House, Schoolhouse and surrounding land and homes. Although the name has changed to The Morris Estate, the property's quaint atmosphere and rich heritage continue to be maintained through careful restorations. Recent renovations to The River House have created a luxurious retreat for guests. As a full house rental, the space is perfect for bridal parties, family reunions, anniversaries, and Notre Dame game weekends. Individual suites can also be rented for visitors traveling through Michigan or South Bend. Enjoy a romantic anniversary getaway in one of our beautiful rooms. Nestled in the woods adjacent to the main home, a small cabin is also available for overnight stays. Combining rustic charm and stunning views of the grounds, the Red Horse Inn is a guest favorite!
